Here are some fun facts that are strange, but true!!

Loony Laws:
-In Canton, Ohio, you have one hour to report your missing lion to authorities.
-in Denmark you cannot wear a mask.
-in Utah it is illegal to cause a catastrophe.
-In Brookfield, Wisconsin, it is illegal to use another person's phone to make a prank call.
-In Acworth, Georgia, all citizens must own a rake.
- In West Virginia you CAN take road kill home for dinner.

Strange Science:
-The slowest animal in the world is the three-toed sloth.
-An albatross can sleep while it flied. It dozes while cruising at 25 mph.
-Skin is the body's heaviest and biggest organ.
-Peanuts can be used as one of the ingredients in dynamite.
-The continent of Antarctica is the only continent with no trees.
-A lump of pure gold the size of your thumbnail can be flattened into a sheet the size of a tennis court.
-Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying.

Wacky Words:
-"The" is the most commonly used word in the English language.
- Pternophobia: the fear of being tickled by feathers.

Spring?

Russia's official day of spring was March 1. Now, at March 21, it is no where near spring! If one looked outside our window about an hour ago, that person would not be able to see anything, except a snow storm. Yes, you heard me correctly, we had a blizzard. It lasted for about an hour. You would think that since it is March 21, there would be no snow, but grass and some flowers starting to grow...but that is not the case here....

Papa just got back from India. He said it was like Cairo and Thailand mixed together. As he was driving from the airport, he said cows were roaming the streets!

Sam is at baseball right now, Josh and Papa are making dinner and Mom and Jess are reading Amelia Bedilia. I have online classes tonight (please, remind me next year never to schedule school on a Friday night. What was I thinking?), and Sam is having his friend Joe over.

Cookies

"Giant Chocolate-Chip Cookies"

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened

1/2 cup shortening

1/4 cup honey

1 egg

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 package (12 ounces) mini chocolate chips

Heat oven to 350*. Mix brown sugar, margarine, shortening, honey and egg in large bowl. Stir in flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Stir in chocolate ships.

Drop dough by level 1/4 cupfuls about 2" apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 12-14 minutes or until edges are golden brown. (Centers will be soft) Cool 3-4 minutes, remove from cookie sheet.

**Note: we use regular size chocolate chips, as we cant get them here. I also use white sugar instead of brown. We like our cookies soft and gooey, so we bake for 10 min. **

Motivation!

In order to get Josh to do his school, Mom decided to "motivate" him. If he does good school work, he gets to put a cotton ball in. He has 3 levels that he has to get up to. He is up to the truck level, but wants to wait 'till the pistol gun (he has wanted one for a long time). He has done a FABULOUS job this week...hopefully this system will work for a while!

Babysitting Fun!

What happens when both parents are out, the little kids are at home, and when Sasha is in charge? Well, this happens: Gameboys are out, Full House is a must, lots of chips and salsa, and late bed time!! (*maybe I shouldn't be telling you this*). Of course, we read and Jess did some spelling, but that is on our second priority list! :-)

Ok, so I have been tagged! Here's my list:

1. My real name is Aleksandra, everyone just calls me Sasha (its the Russian nickname for A.)
2. My favorite color is purple. It has always been, since I was little.
3. I am allergic to dairy products and hazelnuts...
4. I have lived in Russia for almost half of my life. The other half was spent in Connecticut.
5. I love to travel. i've been to Spain, Egypt, Thailand, S. Africa, Malta, Israel,Ukraine, Malta, Prague, and I can't think of any more now.
6. I have played the violin for 7 years....I love it!
7. My favorite things to back are cookies and banana bread.
8. I love dogs, but cats aren't my favorite (I get allergies from them!)
9. I love babysitting....
10. I am not a neat person, at all. I could care less if my bed was made or not...but, if my room/desk gets too messy, then I go crazy and won't do anything else until I clean it!
11. My favorite soda pop is Dr. Pepper...maybe it's because we can't get it here.
12. I am NOT good at geography or history. For a while I thought Paris was in Iraq...i know, i am ridiculous, but at least now I know its in France!
13. I love emailing people!

Busy Bees...

Yes, from the title, you can probably tell that we have been busy. Very busy. Pa's birthday was on Monday, we've had school this week, Pa's traveled and this weekend is just even busier. March and April are busy months for us!

I will post more soon. Josh and I are going to make chocolate chip cookies, so there will be pictures!
